Apsel elected IBM Professor of Engineering

Alyssa B. Apsel, professor and director of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was elected the IBM Professor of Engineering, effective April 1, 2023.

Chemical Inventory Accuracy Winners

The college is required to maintain an accurate chemical inventory in its facilities and is awarding top research groups in each facility during inventory reconciliation. Two facilities have been completed so far, with Olin Hall next on the list.

In Hollister Hall, the top group for inventory accuracy was the Gadikota Group in CEE. In appreciation, Cornell Engineering is purchasing the group a catered lunch.

 For the Bard / Thurston complex, it was a tie between the Estroff and Ober groups and the tie breaker went to the Estroff Group. In appreciation the college is buying the Estroff Group a catered lunch and the Ober Group a catered snack.

Lewis wins Eckerd College alumni outstanding career award

Mark Lewis, director of Cornell’s School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, was honored with the William H. Kadel Alumni Medal for Outstanding Career Achievement from Eckerd College.

CBE's Center appointed Emeritus Professor-of-Practice

Alfred Center, professor of practice (CBE), appointed Emeritus Professor-of-Practice in the Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, effective upon his retirement from Cornell University at the end of the spring semester, May 2023.

Batten promoted to professor

Christopher Batten has been promoted to the rank of professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, effective April 1, 2023.

You receives High-Impact Paper Award

Fengqi You, the Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor (CBE, Systems), received a High-Impact Paper Award from the journal Engineering for his paper "Machine learning and data-driven techniques for the control of smart power generation systems: An uncertainty handling perspective," and his research article on climate-neutral hydrogen production was selected for the cover of the January 2023 issue of AIChE Journal.

Three Cornell Engineering faculty win NSF early-career awards

Judy Cha Ph.D. '09, professor (MSE), Amal El-Ghazaly, assistant professor (ECE) and Matthew Reid, assistant professor (CEE), have received National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Awards.

Petro selected for Young Investigator Program Award

Elaine Petro, assistant professor (MAE), was selected for an Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Program Award that will fund research into next-generation propellants.

Three early-career faculty win Sloan Research Fellowships

Assistant professors Eshan Chattopadhyay (CS), Angeline Pendergrass (EAS) and Andrej Singer (MSE) have won 2023 Sloan Research Fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Godwin promoted to associate professor

Allison Godwin has been elected to the rank of associate professor with indefinite tenure in the Robert F. Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
