Pollock granted emeritus status

Clifford Pollock (ECE) was promoted to emeritus status as the Ilda and Charles Lee Professor of Engineering Emeritus, effective July 1, 2023.

Fuchs, Bindel & Ristenpart promoted to full professor

Three more faculty promotions were recently announced.

  • Greg Fuchs, associate professor (AEP), was promoted to the rank of professor, effective July 1, 2023
  • David Bindel, associate professor (CS), was promoted to the rank of professor, effective July 1, 2023.
  • Thomas Ristenpart, associate professor (CS), was promoted to the rank of professor, effective July 1, 2023.

The Cornell Engineering Staff Service Awards breakfast was held Thursday, June 8, in the Statler Ballroom. Among those who were recognized was Glenn Swan, research support specialist (CBE), for 40 years of service. Congratulations and thank you to all who celebrated milestone anniversaries this past year.

Trustees announce faculty promotions

At its recent meetings, the Board of Trustees elected the following professors to appointment with indefinite tenure, effective as specified below:

  • Nicole A. Benedek, assistant professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was elected associate professor with indefinite tenure.
  • Gregory P. Bewley, assistant professor, Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was elected associate professor with indefinite tenure.
  • Greeshma Gadikota, assistant professor, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was elected associate professor with indefinite tenure.
  • Stefano Galelli, associate professor, Singapore University of Technology and Design, was elected associate professor, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with indefinite tenure, effective with Cornell appointment to regular professorial title, anticipated for July 1, 2023.
  • Jeffrey Moses, assistant professor, School of Applied and Engineering Physics, was elected associate professor with indefinite tenure.
  • Mark M. Wilde, associate professor, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was elected associate professor with indefinite tenure.

Topaloglu honored with Cornell Tech faculty teaching award

Huseyin Topaloglu, the Howard and Eleanor Morgan Professor (ORIE), was the recipient of the faculty teaching award from the graduating students at Cornell Tech. This award goes to the faculty member who students believe has most significantly advanced their educational experience at Cornell Tech.

El Housni chosen for Cornell Tech Students' Choice Award

Omar El Housni, assistant professor (ORIE), received the Students’ Choice Award at the Cornell Tech 2023 graduation ceremony as the faculty member students believe represents Cornell Tech and its values the best.

Shmoys receives INFORMS lectureship award

David Shmoys, the Laibe/Acheson Professor of Business Management and Leadership Studies (ORIE), received the INFORMS Philip McCord Morse Lectureship Award. Shmoys will give the next Morse Lecture at the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting in October in Phoenix, AZ and received funding to give lectures at other institutions promoting OR for a two-year period.

Robert Kleinberg receives inagural mid-career award

Robert Kleinberg, professor (CS), is the co-recipient of the inaugural SIGecom Mid-Career Award. The award recognizes outstanding individuals whose contributions have had great impact in the field of economics and computation.

Ryan DeLany, associate director, Engineering Advising; Alex Pizzola, assistant director, Engineering Advising; and Lauren Stulgis, Swanson Director of Student Project Teams were among the 11 finalists selected from across the university for the Excellence in Professional Staff Undergraduate Academic Advising Awards. At the award ceremony, Liane Fitzgerald, director, Engineering Advising, was recognized for her leadership of the Professional Academic Advising Leaders group these past three years.

Archer, Shaffer receive Carpenter Advising Awards

Shivan Archer, the John and Janet Swanson Senior Lecturer (BME), and Chris Shaffer, professor (BME), were recognized with Kendall S. Carpenter Memorial Advising Awards for their sustained and distinguished contributions to undergraduate advising.
