Fengqi You, the Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor in Energy Systems Engineering (CBE, Systems), received the prestigious 2024 Lawrence K. Cecil Award in Environmental Chemical Engineering from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Established in 1972, the award is given to at most one individual per year, recognizing outstanding contributions and achievements in the preservation or improvement of the environment.

ORIE's Mark Lewis named INFORMS Senior Member

Mark Lewis, the Maxwell M. Upson Professor of Engineering (ORIE), has been selected to the spring 2024 class of INFORMS Senior Members.

Samitha Samaranayake, associate professor (CEE, Systems), has been selected to participate in The Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering 2024 Symposium of the National Academy of Engineering.

CBE's Yang awarded Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award

Rong Yang,assistant professor (CBE), was awarded a 2024 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. Presented by the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, this award is presented to faculty who are within the first five years of their academic careers, have each created an outstanding independent body of scholarship, and are deeply committed to education.

Myers named chair of SIGPLAN exec committee

Andrew Myers, professor (CS), has been named chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Programming Languages (SIGPLAN) Executive Committee.

ACM recognizes Williamson, Kleinberg with Test of Time Awards

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has recognized two faculty members in the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science with Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC) Test of Time Awards, which will be given at STOC 2024 in in Vancouver, June 24-28. David Williamson, professor (ORIE), has been selected for the 30-year Test of Time Award. Jon Kleinberg ’93, the Tisch University Professor (CS), has been chosen for the 20-year Test of Time Award.

Muñoz‐Saez named faculty fellow

Carolina Muñoz‐Saez, assistant professor (EAS), has been named the Emil and Irene Moshkovich Faculty Fellow in the College of Engineering, effective July 1.

Kleinberg selected as member of the APS

Jon Kleinberg, the Tisch University Professor (CS), has been selected as a member of the American Philosophical Society for his research centered around algorithms and networks, their role in social and information systems, and their impact on society.

Ober named Fellow of the CAE

Chris Ober, the Francis Norwood Bard Professor of Metallurgical Engineering (MSE), has been named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, for the invention of new families of photoresists enabling advanced, next generation high-resolution lithography in microelectronics manufacture.

Chris Earls, professor (CEE), has been elected the J. Preston Levis Professor of Engineering, effective July 1, 2024
