Rafael Pass, professor (CS, Cornell Tech), has been elected an International Association for Cryptologic Research Fellow for fundamental contributions to theoretical cryptography and service to the cryptography community.

Fengqi You, the Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor in Energy Systems (CBE / Systems Engineering), had his research, “Cascading Polymer Macro-Debris Upcycling and Microparticle Removal As An Effective Life Cycle Plastic Pollution Mitigation Strategy,” featured on the cover of the April 25 issue of the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

Carbon To Stone takes first place in regional competition

Greeshma Gadikota, assistant professor (CEE), had her startup, Carbon To Stone, awarded first place in the regional competition for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Technology Transitions EnergyTech University Prize.

Tardos receives 2023 Brouwer Medal

The Netherlands Mathematical Congress has awarded the 2023 Brouwer Medal to Éva Tardos, the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor (CS, ORIE), in recognition of her long-lasting contributions to the field of discrete mathematics, in particular in the areas of combinatorial optimization, approximation algorithms and algorithmic game theory. Tardos received her award at the NMC 2023 conference April 11 in Ultrecht, The Netherlands.

Putnam elected the Samuel B. Eckert Professor in Engineering

David A. Putnam, Cornell Engineering's Associate Dean for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a professor in the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering and the Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, was elected the Samuel B. Eckert Professor in Engineering, effective April 1, 2023.

Greenly appointed Senior Research Associate Emeritus of Laboratory of Plasma Studies

John B. Greenly was appointed as Senior Research Associate Emeritus of Laboratory of Plasma Studies, effective upon his retirement from Cornell on March 2, 2023.

Darrell G. Schlom, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was elected as a Tisch University Professor, effective April 1, 2023.

Zhang elected the Irving Porter Church Professor of Engineering

Ke Max Zhang, professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been elected the Irving Porter Church Professor of Engineering, effective April 1, 2023.

AEP's Shan, Mak elected to named professorships

Jie Shan professor in the School of Applied and Engineering Physics, was elected the Walter S. Carpenter Jr. Professor of Engineering, effective April 1, 2023. Shan's lab partner, Kin Fai Mak, professor (AEP, physics), was elected the inaugural Josephson Family Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, effective April 1, 2023.
